Eric Spence (15yrs), a member of the Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club, improved his total speed by a huge margin of 22 seconds in his combined times skated at the CanadianAmerican long track speed skating competition this past weekend in Calgary. This competition drew up to 112 male competitors per individual race and up to 73 female competitors per race. Most of the competitors were from Canada and the States. Eric set personal bests in each distance he raced and three of his new times met the national time standards so that he now qualifies to compete at the Canada Cup level.  He raced to a 1.5 second personal best in his 500m, a 3.5 sec personal best  in his 1500m, he was 6 seconds faster in his 1000m, and 11 seconds faster in his 3k event over last year’s performances.
Sister Sara (17yrs) also competed at this event and set personal bests in all her four distances raced.  Sara will be competing at Canada Cup #1 this coming weekend in Quebec City.  Eldest sibling, Victoria, raced to a personal best time in the 500m and finished 4th overall in the 3k distance.
