Siblings Sara (15) and Eric (13) Spence of the River City Racers Speed
Skating Club, both qualified to represent Zone 2 at the BC Winter Games to
be held in Vernon in February.  They took part in the short track speed
skating event qualifiers in Kelowna over the weekend. Both finished first in
their division.  Sara won all three events (1500m, 200m pursuit and 400m)
while Eric placed first in the 1500m and 400m and placed second in the 200m
pursuit setting a new personal best time of 21.93 seconds. 
Alex Forbes (14) was also competing for a spot on the games team and placed
third.  Alex skated to personal bests in all his distances skated (1500m,
400m and 200m pursuit). Only the top two competitors were selected this
weekend.  Alex could be named to the team later in January depending on the
number of 'wild cards' given to the zone 2 speed skating team. 
Other members of the River City Racers speed skating club took part in the
interclub portion of the skating competition in Kelowna. All skaters reached
atleast one personal best time.  Winning their respective race categories
were Li Dong, Alexander Willis, and Finn Boggetti Smith.  Placing second
were Margaret Jean Willis, Luuukas Dong and Sirka Hondorf.  Picking up third
place spots were Delray Willis, Calvin Forbes and Mia Dong.  In fourth place
and with three personal best times was AJ Timewell.
