Josie Spence Wins Silver and Bronze Medals

November 16th 2012 - In Calgary Josie Spence, a member of the Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club, continued her assault on the record books in her second and final day in action at the Regional Junior world Cup at the Calgary Olympic Oval.   Josie captured her second bronze medal of the competition with a third place finish in the 1500m in a new personal best time and provincial record of 2:01:93. First and second place in this distance went to two Japanese skaters - Natsumi Takayama and Saori Toi respectively.   Josie set another provincial record, lowering her previous mark, in the 500m to a time of 40.37  and placed 5th.  Josie came 2nd in the 5K mass start race to add Silver to her collection.
Sister Sara Spence (16), also qualified to skate in the 500m distance of the Regional Junior World Cup and placed 7th in a new personal best of 41.55.
In the CanAm portion of the competition in Calgary, Sara raced to another personal best in the 1500m event in a new time of 2:12:38 placing 29th.  Eldest sister Tori Spence also competed in this event and finished in 7th spot (second Canadian finisher) in a seasons best time.
Younger brother Eric, set a 7 sec personal best to finish his 1500m in 84th spot in a time of 2:13.82.  Eric also raced to a new personal best in the 500m in a time of 44.5.
