Toronto:  Sara Spence (16yrs), a member of the river city racers speed skating club who trains in Kamloops, participated in her first Junior National short track speed skating championships in Toronto over the weekend. Sara moved up 5 positions from her original rank of 30th to finish in 25th spot overall. Her best placing came in the 1500m where she finished 17th.  Sara did not set any personal best times at these championships as racing at this level is more strategical than going top speed from the gun.  Ie in the 1500m the first 6 to 7 laps are spent jockeying for position before the final sprint begins.
Sara was one of 6 BC females to qualify for this event. No BC males qualified.  Final placings by the other BC skaters included Jamie McDonald ( ft st James) 5th, Jamie lee ( ft st John) 14th;  and kaylin mcNally ( Abbotsford) 18th; all of whom train at the Calgary oval. And Jessie Kecca(Kelowna) 9 th who now trains in Quebec and Carolina Hillier ( Prince George) 30th who still trains in Prince George.
Sara has two more seasons as a junior skater
