Latest News Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club

Sara Spence, a member of the River City Racers Speed Skating Club, competed in her first National Qualifier Short Track Competition in Calgary over the weekend. This was a four day event with top skaters from across the country.  Sara set personal best times in the 500m lowering her time from a 47.8 to 46.5; and in the 1000m from a 1:39.3 to 1:38.5.  Faster times this season mean a better Junior ranking for her this winter.  It it not official, but these times likely qualify her to compete at Junior Nationals in Montreal in January.
Brother, Eric, competed at the Calgary Oval on the long track discipline.  He skated to a personal best time in the 500m with a 43.73 - this was more than a second faster than last seasons best of 44.84.  He set a season's best in the 3000m event with a time of 4:37.31

Eric and Sara Spence, members of the Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club, competed in Calgary over the weekend at the Single Distance Short Track competition.  Each skated two distances.  Eric raced to personal bests in both distances skating to a 4 second personal best in the 1000m event setting  a new time of 1:37.3.   In the 500m event he lowered his time by .5 of a second setting his new mark at 47.5.  Eric finished second and third respectively in his finals for these distances. Sister Sara skated to seasons best time in both the 500m and 1000m finishing third and fourth respectively in the finals .  Sara  qualified to compete in her first National Short Track Qualifier which is being held in Calgary from October 3rd through the 6th.  The National Qualifier consists of the top 60 skaters in the country minus those skating presently competing at world cups.

In Long Track speed skating action sister Josie Spence competed in the Fall Classic event in Calgary.  She set personal best times and new provincial records in the 1500m (2:00.53 - 1 second improvement) and the 3000m events (4:11.78 - 2.5 second improvement over last season's times) .  Tori Spence was unable to compete due to illness.
