Latest News Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club

Sara won both distances today.  The 1000m and the 3000m.  She is the provincial open women's champion for 2013!! She also set a new track record in the 500m yesterday. Her time was 43.08. Track record was 43.52 ( set by sister Tori in 2010)
Sara set 4 personal bests this weekend. Eric would complete the day with wins in both his races.

Salt Lake City: Tori Spence (20), a member of the Kamloops River City Racers Club now training in Calgary, finished 7th overall at the North American/Oceania Qualifying event in Salt Lake City over the weekend.  Tori's best placing was a 6th in the 5k event.  Tori was part of a 6 man 6 women team sent to this competition to determine spots for the World All round competition to be held in Hamar Norway on February 16 - 17.  Tori went into the competition as the 6th ranked Canadian female and moved up two positions amongst the Canadian contenders to finish in 4th.  The top 6 female finishers earn spots at the World All Round competition (so Tori missed it by one position!)

PacificSport is excited to announce three NCCP Coach Certification Courses to be held over the new Family Day long weekend on February 9-10, 2013. These courses will be free or reimbursed through PacificSport’s new Western Canada Summer Games Coach Legacy Grant.
 
The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) workshops are designed for coaches of all levels from youth community sports to Olympic team programs and are broken into two streams of instruction; Community Sport and Competitive Sport. PacificSport will be hosting the following courses at on February 9-10, 2013. Please check our NCCP Coach Certification Page on our website for more course details.

Calgary  - Tori Spence (20) a member of the Kamloops River City Racers speed skating club and a member of the National Development Team, skated to a Canadian silver medal in the 5K event at the Canadian Single distance championships held in Calgary over the weekend.  Tori's time of 7:23.12 was a seasons best time.  Only Cindy Klassen of Winnipeg was faster.  Tori would like to thank Sun Country Toyota Scion for providing her with a new pair of speed skating blades for this competition.
Sister Josie (18yrs) was also competing in the Canadian Single Distance Championships and qualified first overall out of the Junior females competing at this event.   These championships served as the qualification meet for the Junior World Championships to be held in Collalbo Italy February 23 and 24 where the top 4 Canadian junior female and male skaters were selected to attend.  In the Canadian Single Distance Championships  Josie placed 6th in the 3k event in a new personal best and provincial record time of 4:14.06; placed 8th in the 1500m in a new record time of 2:01.54; placed 11th in the 500m in a new record time of 39.71; and placed 10th in the 1000m.
Sister Sara Spence (17) skated in the Canada Cup portion of the competition over the weekend and placed 5th in the 500m event, 10th in both the 1500m and 3k events, and placed 15th in the 1000m event.
The Canadian Single Distance Championships is comprised of the top 20 skaters in Canada (no age restriction) for each of the distances raced.  The Canada Cup is comprised of the remaining competing skaters in each distance that have not made the top 20 cut but have made the time standard to participate.
