Latest News Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club

Sisters Victoria and Sara Spence, members of the Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club and now training on the national development team in Calgary, raced to podium finishes this weekend.  Both were competing in the Canada/American Competition that fielded over 50 female skaters from Canada and the United States.  Victoria placed second in both events she entered - the 1500m and 3000m events.  Sister Sara finished in first in the 1000m event, second in the long distance mass start event, and third in both the 500m and 3000m events.  Missing from this competition were the 7 Canadian female skaters named to the Fall World Cup circuit - which includes middle sister Josie Spence.  Josie is now in Germany preparing for World Cup #3 in Inzell next weekend.
In other club action - several Kamloops Racers will be taking part in the Kelowna interclub and BCWG Zone 2 qualifiers on December 5th at the Capital News Center.

In other action, Racer Josie Spence (21yrs) was competing in her second World Cup of the Season which was held in Salt Lake City this past weekend.  Josie was in two events.  She raced to a 8 second personal best time in the 5000m event finishing in a time of 4:04.76 which was the second fastest time for a Canadian and a 7th place finish in the B division. In the long distance mass start event Josie finished 6th in the A division.  Team mate Ivanie Blondin received the world cup silver medal in the same event. Next up for Josie is World Cup #3 in Inzel December 4 - 6th.

John Hill (8 yrs of age) of the Kamloops River City Racers was crowned division champion at the Salmon Arm Interclub speed skating competition held at the Shaw Center Salmon Arm this past Sunday. John was competing in a field of 11 skaters in division 2. Skaters came from  Salmon Arm, Kelowna, Vernon, and Kamloops.  John also set personal bests in each of the distances he raced - the 100m, 200m, 800, and 500m.  Team mate Claire Riel ( 9 yrs) and in her first year of racing, set three personal bests and finished 9th in Division 3.  Calvin Forbes (15 yrs) picked up the silver medal for division 7 and set a personal best time in the 1500m event.  Next up for these skaters is the Kelowna interclub December 5th.

The Kamloops River City Racers Speed Skating Club took part in ‘Classic Chill’ event this weekend at McArthur arena.  This was an ability meet where skaters of similar abilities race against each other.  Claire Riel, 9 years of age, was racing in her first competition and climbed from an initial last place seeding in division 2 to finish in first place and set 4 personal best times.  Finn Bogetti Smith, 12, also set 4 personal bests racing in division 5.  Sister, Summer, 9, set 3 new best times in Division 3.  Also racing in division 3 were team mates Noah Lara and John Hill - both raced to 2 personal best times.  Calvin Forbes (15) raced in Division 6 and set personal best in each distance he raced, the 200m, 400m, 500m, 1000m, and 1500m events. 
Next weekend the River City Racers will be in action at two events.  Calvin Forbes will be racing in the Matsqui short track interclub competition and  Josie Spence will be racing in the World Cup #1 Long Track competition in Calgary.
